KARACHI, Pakistan: K-Electric (KE) has announced that there will be a load shed exemption for all its consumers starting from July 28 to August 4.
In a statement, KE said that the exemption was consistent with its approach of not inducing load shed during Eid holidays for the past five years.
KE’s spokesperson said that while the utility company would not be conducting any load shed, in an area as vast as 6500 sq km, there could be an occurrence of fault in an area due to a technical breakdown.
We conduct segmented load shedding as per segment load shed plan in select areas where there is moderate or high theft to minimize losses. However, during the week of Eid no area of Karachi will face load shedding,” said the KE spokesperson.
“On the other hand, overloading and faults can occur and for that purpose, we will have our operation’s team working around the clock in three shifts of 8 hours each across the city. Customers are requested to call us via our 118 hotline to register their complaints, and our operations’ staff will attend to them immediately,” he said.
“We are utilizing extra resources in order to ensure people across Karachi enjoy a wonderful holiday period. This is our way of wishing our customers Eid Mubarak,” he reiterated.
KE’s spokesperson explained that high theft areas where illegal hook or kunda connections are most prevalent, are far more high likely to experience unplanned outages as the local PMTs (pole mounted transmitters) cannot bear the extra load.
Karachi’s citizens have been advised to use electricity prudently and avoid wastage. KE’s spokesperson said, “We appeal to our consumers to use electricity wisely particularly during this break, so that everyone in Karachi can have a pleasant Eid.”
