KARACHI: A high level meeting was held with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair at the Governor House in Karachi on Wednesday to review the law and order situation in the city, during which it was agreed that no compromise should be made on the restoration of peace in Karachi.
During the meeting, the prime minister directed that criminals and their patrons must be dealt with iron hands.
The prime minister said that all out efforts will be made to protect life and property of the citizens. He said that the country’s development is linked to peace.
The meeting discussed various options regarding blockade of illegal SIMs, removal of encroachments, and implementation of Protection of Pakistan Ordinance in consultation with all the stakeholders.
The meeting was attended among other by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Director General ISI Lieutenant General Zaheer-ul-Islam, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, DG Rangers Major General Rizwan Akhter and IG Sindh Iqbal Mehmood.
The political leadership including former President Asif Ali Zardari, Senator Shahi Syed of Awami National Party, Haider Abbas Rizvi of Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman of Jamat-e-Islami also attended the meeting.
Prior to the meeting, the prime minister also held separate meetings with Governor Sindh and Chief of Army Staff.
