KARACHI, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that Karachi is economic hub of the country and security in the metropolitan has direct bearing on overall business climate and economic activity of the entire country.
The COAS made these remarks when he visited Corps Headquarters and Rangers HQ Karachi on Wednesday and was given detailed briefing about operational preparedness of the formation and security situation in Sindh particularly City of Karachi.
In a press release, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that overall accomplishments of Karachi operation so far and way forward remained the focus of briefing.
The COAS commended Army, Rangers, Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and Intelligence Agencies for noticeable improvement in the law and order situation. He particularly lauded support and sacrifices of people of Karachi in this journey towards peace.
The Army Chief said that gains of operations will not be allowed to be reversed and the operations will continue till attainment of sustainable peace. He emphasised that all out efforts will be made to consolidate gains made so far during operation and indiscriminately eliminate remnants of terrorists with their sleeper cells.
General Bajwa directed a focused and synergized effort of all military and civil intelligence agencies for optimum effects to pre-empt potential threats to peace of Karachi.
The COAS said that Pakistan Army will render all necessary assistance to provincial government for capacity building and training of LEAs for long term effectiveness against organised crime and enduring peace for the City.
Earlier on his arrival at Corps HQ, the COAS was received by Corps Commander Lt General Naveed Mukhtar.
