ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N’s) Khawaja Saad Rafique as member of the National Assembly from Lahore’s NA-125 constituency.
The ECP has issued a notification in this regard in Islamabad on Friday.
On May 3, Saad Rafique was disqualified by an election tribunal, observing that massive irregularities and negligence were found in NA-125 constituency during May 2013 general election.
The tribunal annulled results of NA-125 and PP-155 and ordered re-elections in these constituencies.
But later on May 11, the Supreme Court of Pakistan suspended the decision of the election tribunal for re-polling in Lahore’s NA-125 and PP-155.
Saad Rafique had secured 123,416 votes as a result of general election held in NA-125 constituency on May 11, 2013 while his opponent the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Hamid Khan had bagged 84,495 votes.
