ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Korang Bridge project on Islamabad Expressway will be completed by the end of 2022, the Senate was told on Thursday.

Replying to a question, the Minister for Interior Rana Sana Ullah Khan apprised the Upper House that it is fact that the Korang Bridge project on Islamabad Expressway has not been completed in the stipulated time period.

The minister told that initially the contract cost of the project was Rs 659,268,696; however, later it was revised to Rs 562,865,962.

It was further informed that the contract for the project was awarded in September 2020; the contractor slowed down the work due to unprecedented price escalation in construction material i.e. steel and cement etc.

Now the contract has been assigned to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) without change in cost with completion period of four months.

To another question, Rana Sana Ullah told that within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), two anti-beggary squads have been established to apprehend the beggars including the minor children loitering in the area of Federal Capital at various points.

These squads comprise of two upper sub-ordinate, six jawans/officials and two lady constables under the personal supervision of Additional SP Operations and DSP/Rescue-15 Islamabad.

The patrolling system within ICT has been revamped and SHO’s of all the Police Stations within ICT have been strictly directed to utilize their mobiles as well as staff from Rescue 15 to curb the menace of beggary.
