KPK set to hold LB elections on Saturday

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The much-awaited local government elections in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province are set to be held on Saturday amid foolproof security arrangements.

The polling will start at 08:00 am and continue till 05:00 pm without any break.

The elections at village and neighbourhood councils will be held on non-party basis whereas on party basis at tehsil and district council level.

A total of 84,420 candidates are in the field for 41,762 seats.

The Provincial Election Commission has set up 11,211 polling stations including 3,059 for female where more than 13 million registered voters to elect their representatives.

The election commission has declared 2,968 polling stations as most sensitive and 4,371 as sensitive for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local bodies elections.

On the other hand, the district administrations have chalked out comprehensive security plan to maintain peaceful atmosphere on the polling day.

Earlier, the election campaign ended at midnight between Thursday and Friday during which the candidates visited door to door to muster support of maximum people.

The Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the political party which rules the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Imran Khan also visited various areas of the province to address rallies as part of campaign for the local body elections.

The election results will be announced on June 7.
