KPK to expel Afghan Imams from mosques

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Department has issued its directive to expel Afghan Imams, religious persons who lead the people in prayers, from mosques across the province.

In a statement on Wednesday, the home department said that a total of 294 Afghan religious clerics are present in various mosques across the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The home department said that their documents have been sent to the concerned commissioner and police officials while all commissioners and deputy inspector generals (DIGs) have been asked to ensure the implementation of the directives.

The KPK home department has asked all concerned officials to make sure the speedy implementation of the orders and submit a report in this regard within seven days.

The initiative is part of the national plan of action against terrorism launched in the wake of the deadly terror attack at an army-run school in Peshawar on December 16 last year.

Since then the federal as well as all provincial governments are taking stern actions and measures to ensure that menace of terrorism is eradicated from the country.
