ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Prime Minister’s Advisor on Accountability and Interior Barrister Mirza Shahzad Akbar presided over a consultation in Islamabad on Thursday pursuant to directions of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) with the Islamabad Bar representatives to address the issues faced by lawyers.

The meeting was attended by the President Islamabad High Court Bar Association Chaudhry Haseeb Muhammad, the Vice President Islamabad High Court Bar Association Imran Shoukat Rao, the Secretary Islamabad High Court Bar Association Sohail Akbar Chaudhry, the member Islamabad Bar Council Javed Saleem Shorish, the member Islamabad Bar Council Naseer Ahmed Kiani, the member Islamabad Bar Council Shoaib Saheen, and the President District Bar Association Islamabad Zafar Khokhar.

The meeting reviewed various issues such as the relocation of District Courts and Islamabad High Court, and construction of the Lawyers Complex (Wukla Complex).

In the light of discussion and deliberation, a consensus was reached that the present Islamabad High Court vicinity should be used to construct twin towers for District Judiciary (East and West), and a separate complex in the same vicinity should be made to accommodate chambers and other facilities for lawyers. The Bar representatives were informed about the government’s political will to reform the judicial system, address various issues faced by lawyers, and to bring about necessary legislation to effectively tackle the hurdles faced by Judiciary and the Bar especially in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). Barrister Shahzad Akbar assured the lawyers that their concerns will be addressed diligently and an efficacious solution will be presented before Prime Minister Imran Khan and Federal Cabinet as per the Orders of Chief Justice IHC.
