ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar on Monday took over as the Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as part of major reshuffles in the military’s top brass after General Qamar Javed Bajwa became new Army Chief last month.
Earlier Lt General Naveed Mukhtar was posted as Corps Commander Karachi but later on December 11, he was transferred and posted as Director General ISI, the Country’s premier Spy agency.
Lt General Naveed Mukhtar replaced former director general ISI Lt General Rizwan Akhtar who has now been posted as the President National Defence University (NDU) Islamabad. On the other hand, Lt General Shahid Baig Mirza was posted as the Corps Commander Karachi.
Naveed Mukhtar was commissioned in the Armoured Corps regiment in 1983. He is a graduate of the Command and Staff College Quetta, NDU Islamabad and War Course USA. He had commanded a Mechanised Division.
Till December 7, Lt General Mukhtar had been serving as Corps Commander of Karachi. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and posted to the army’s Corps V in September 2014.
Lt General Mukhtar possesses a vast experience in the field of intelligence. He had also headed the counterterrorism wing of the ISI in Islamabad.
