ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that the government is giving a subsidy of Rs 3 billion to provide ghee to the masses on reduced rates.

While addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Monday, she pointed out that the price of ghee in the open market is Rs 550 per kilogram whilst it is being provided at the rate of Rs 300 per kilogram through the Utility Stores Corporation (USC). This accounts for a subsidy of Rs 250 on each kilogram of ghee.

The information minister said that a flour bag of 10 kilograms is also being provided at reduced rates of Rs 400 through Utility Stores. She said that the flour is available at the same rate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as per the promise made by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said that 100 mobile units and 600 stationery sale points have been added to the system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in order to ensure the availability of wheat flour to the masses in the province.

The minister said that price control committees have also been constituted, adding that steps are being taken to check hoarding and smuggling of the essential commodities.

The information minister said that Rs 17 billion have been earmarked in the budget for the provision of cheap ghee, flour, and sugar to the people in the next Fiscal Year 2022-23.
