Maulana Samiul Haq withdraws from efforts for negotiations with Taliban

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S) leader Maulana Sami ul Haq on Wednesday withdrew from efforts for negotiations with the Tehrik-i-Taliban (TTP), saying that he did not see any seriousness in efforts to find the most desirable solution.

Talking to media representatives on Wednesday, the JUI-S leader said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assigned him the task of negotiating with the Taliban, and he received a positive response after two days.

The JUI-S leader said that he sent a message to the prime minister on January 2, asking him to inform about the future strategy. Maulana Sami said that he contacted with the prime minister again and again, but he did not give any response.

Maulana Sami said that he had appealed to avoid the use of force but on Tuesday Pakistan’s military fighter jets began bombing in North Waziristan, Khyber Agency’s Tirah valley and other tribal areas.

Meanwhile, he announced to part ways with the Taliban peace talks, saying he did not want to be a part of peace talks.
