Militants kidnap 6 people from Matani

PESHAWAR: Six people, including the guard and driver of the district officer revenue (DoR) Bannu, were kidnapped in a brazen action by over two dozen militants who erected barricades in Darwazgai area of Matani on the Kohat Road in broad daylight, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on 19 September, 2012.

The DoR Bannu, Sajid Nawaz, however, managed to escape when police arrived at the spot and reportedly exchanged fire with the fleeing kidnappers. The police claimed they had also recovered the three vehicles from which seven persons were kidnapped.

Sajid Nawaz along with his driver Rashid and police constable Umar, his guard, was on way from Bannu to Peshawar when they were intercepted by around two dozen gunmen on the main Kohat Road. The official told the police that they all were taken hostage by the kidnappers.

The police and the local sources said the armed men also intercepted two other vehicles after the car of the DoR. They kidnapped four persons in the two cars, including two employees of a cellular phone company and industrialists from Wah in Punjab province.
