PESHAWAR: At least four people were killed and 30 others were wounded when militants stormed a judicial complex in Peshawar, assailants also took some hostages inside the compound, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister, Mian Iftikhar Ahmed confirmed to media persons that a suicide bomber entered the recently-built Judicial Complex and blew himself up.
At least a dozen terrorists attacked the building situated on Jail Road close to the District and Session Court within the limits of Sadar police station, he said.
The minister told reporters that many have been taken hostage, adding that the attack might have been designed to free militants from the nearby jail.
Eye witnesses said the attackers also hurled hand grenades on the office of session judge.
Scores were injured in stampede as the powerful explosion sent people running out of their offices. A large number of lawyers and litigants were present inside the building when the blast rocked it.
Police and rescue teams arrived at the site and shifted the injured to Lady Reading Hospital. Over 20 injured were brought to the hospital with two dead bodies.
Pakistan army troops entered the court compound and evacuated the building where scores of people, including some security men and police personnel were held hostage.
