KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday directed the Inspector General of Frontier Corps in Balochistan to appear before the court and present missing persons on Friday, or otherwise face the charges.

A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Jawwad S. Khwaja and Justice Amir Hani Muslim was hearing the missing persons’ case at Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry.

During today’s proceedings, the bench expressed its utmost displeasure over federal authorities, Balochistan provincial government and the Frontier Corps over non-recovery of missing persons.

The court directed the Inspector General of Frontier Corps in Balochistan to appear before the bench in Friday’s hearing and present missing persons.

The chief justice observed that the even democratic government has disappointed the people and did not meet the expectations of masses in this regard.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif, who was given additional charge of ministry of defense on Wednesday, also appeared before the bench and held out the assurance that the federal government will one day recover all the missing persons.

Earlier, talking to media representatives in Karachi, Khawaja Asif said that it will take months and weeks to resolve the issue of missing persons, and not years.

The minister for defence said that 738 missing persons have been located in the last four months, adding that the remaining missing persons will also be traced shortly.
