NEW DELHI: The newly-elected Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has plans to visit the United States in September for his first meeting with the US President Barack Obama after he accepted the invitation of the latter to visit Washington.
The 63-year-old Modi took the oath of office as India’s 15th prime minister on May 26 after his party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a sweeping victory in the Lok Sabha elections.
The dates for the meeting between Obama and Modi are being finalised, the Indian media reports said. Moreover, reports said that the Indian side has asked for the meeting to be held on September 26, around the time of Modi’s maiden address at the UN General Assembly.
“All pending bilateral issues will be discussed in the one-day meeting as Modi is keen to push the relationship forward for its economic returns for India,” the media quoting sources reported.
