PakistanMQM dissolves Rabita Committee

LONDON: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday announced to dissolve its Rabita (Coordination) Committee, a day after the party’s chief said that cleansing process had begun within the MQM to purge the party of ‘corrupt and unwanted’ elements.

The new Rabita committee would be formed on Saturday in a general workers’ meeting of the party. In the meantime, administrative affairs of the party would be managed by a seven-member committee which had already been formed.

The MQM’s Admin Committee, which runs administrative affairs at party headquarters Nine Zero, was also dissolved.

The decision in this respect was made by the Rabita committee and was approved by party Chief Altaf Hussain, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari said.

The move comes in the wake of Altaf Hussain’s address to MQM workers on Wednesday during which he said he would purge the party of ‘corrupt and unwanted’ elements and that the cleansing process for that purpose had already begun.

Hussain had made the announcement while talking to members of the MQM coordination committee by phone from London.

The MQM had already dissolved its Karachi Tanzeemi Committee (KTC), terminating basic membership of KTC incharge Hammad Siddiqui and suspending three other local leaders –Saleem Tajik, Shakeel Omar and Farooq Saleem.
