PoliticsMQM files fresh requisition to call Sindh Assembly session

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday removed Sindh Assembly Speaker’s reservations and filed another requisition to call session of the house to debate law-and-order situation in Karachi.

MQM lawmakers said that there were no more hurdles in convening the house, urging the government to explore the possibilities of calling army in the city to curb the violence.

On Friday, the Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, dismissed MQM’s request to convene a Sindh Assembly session on the grounds that signatures of three MQM members – Dr. Sagheer Ahmed, Dilawar Hussain and Muhammad Kamran – did not match as per the assembly register.

Today, the three MQM MPAs accompanied by other members submitted the requisition again to the Sindh Assembly secretariat and removed the reservation about signatures.

Speaking to reporters later, the MQM lawmakers said that they stand by their party chief’s demand of army deployment in the city for a decisive operation against criminal elements.

Acting Speaker Shehla Raza said the plea has been received and would be reviewed today.

Meanwhile, sources said that special meeting of the federal cabinet regarding Karachi unrest, which was scheduled for tomorrow‚ will now be held on Wednesday in Karachi.
