ISLAMABAD: Muhammad Khan Achakzai, the elder brother of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai, has been appointed as Governor of Balochistan province, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Tuesday.

Achakzai was appointed by President Asif Ali Zardari on the advice of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Muhammad Khan Achakzai is a retired bureaucrat from the Planning Commission of Pakistan, where he served as a chief economist in Grade-22.

Former Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Ali Magsi tendered his resignation on June 2 soon after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had nominated Dr Abdul Malik as chief minister of the province and announced that the new governor of the province would be from the PkMAP.
