ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Muhammad Saleem Baig has been appointed as the Chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for the next four years on contract basis.
In this regard, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a notification on Thursday in compliance of the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The notification states “In pursuance of the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan dated 27-06-2018 and approval of the Competent Authority, Mr. Muhammad Saleem is appointed as Chairman, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on contract basis, for a period of four years, in terms of Section 7 (1) of PEMRA (Amendment) Act, 2007 as amended PEMRA (Amendment) Ordinance, 2018, with immediate effect and until further orders.
His appointment is subject to resignation or seeking retirement from his government service as per condition mentioned in Finance Division’s O.M. No. 3(10) R-4/2000 dated 8th May, 2001.”
On Wednesday, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice Saqib Nisar directed the government to notify Muhammad Saleem Baig as the new Chairman of PEMRA within two days.
