ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Cabinet has appointed Muhammad Tahir Roy as the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

While briefing media persons along with the Minister for Finance Miftah Ismail about decisions taken in the Federal Cabinet on Wednesday, the Minster for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said that a Cabinet Committee under the Chairmanship of Law Minister Azam Tarar has been constituted to review Exit Control List (ECL) law and will submit its report to the Cabinet in three days.

In its meeting, according to the minister, the Federal Cabinet approved reduction in prices of sugar and flour for the provision of relief to people during the Holy Month of Ramazan.

The information minister said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s direction for price reduction of 10 kilogram flour pack from Rs 550 to Rs 400 during Ramazan was accorded approval.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the subsidized flour will be available everywhere in Punjab. She said that reduction in sugar price from Rs 80 per kilogram to 70 Rs per kilogram at Utility Stores during Ramazan was also approved.

The minister said that directions have been given to ensure the provision of sugar and flour across the Country. She said that the Punjab government will supply flour to Gilgit-Baltistan. She said that supply of flour to Azad Kashmir will be a gift from the Punjab government.

In his remarks, the Finance Minister Miftah Ismail expressed the belief that he will successfully get the IMF programme revived today. He said that it is top priority of the government to put least burden on the common man while reviving the IMF programme.

Miftah Ismail said that the government is determined to bring budget discipline and present a pro-people budget to provide maximum relief to the masses. He said that depreciation in rupee value will not be allowed and inflation will be brought under control.

Regarding power outages in the Country, he said that power plants with a capacity of 75,000 megawatts of electricity are lying closed due to inaptness and incompetence of the previous government.

Commenting on shortage of fertilizers, he said that unfortunately agri-inputs and wheat were smuggled to other countries, causing shortage of the commodity in the Country.

The finance minister said that the government has decided to constitute a Commission to investigate smuggling of fertilizers.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over the first meeting of his Cabinet in Islamabad.
