IHC suspends Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi's detention order

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended the notification of detention of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi in Mumbai attack case.

Lakhvi, one of the main accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attack case, was granted bail by an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on December 18 but he remained detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Later on December 26, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi filed a petition in the IHC challenging his detention.

The IHC judge Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi on Monday while hearing the case related to Lakhvi’s petition suspended his detention order after hearing the counsel’s arguments.

Lakhvi’s counsel Raja Rizwan Abbasi said that the court had previously accepted his client’s bail but it was the administration that had detained him which was unlawful.

Abbasi said that granting of bail was an issue of fundamental rights.
