Musharraf Treason case: Special court reserves judgment over criminal procedure

ISLAMABAD: The special court on Wednesday reserved its judgment over the issue of applicability of criminal procedure code in the high treason trial against former President Pervez Musharraf.

A three-member special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab and comprising Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali heard the treason case against former President Pervez Musharraf in Islamabad.

During the course of hearing‚ special public prosecutor in the treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf, Akram Sheikh, pleaded that there is no ambiguity in the formation of the special court‚ which is fully authorised to hear criminal case.

The prosecutor said that if there is any lacuna‚ the court can seek assistance from the general law to reach on any conclusion.

Akram Sheikh further said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan also declared the army act as subservient to the criminal procedure code in case of criminal proceedings.

Later, the special court adjourned the hearing of former President Pervez Musharraf treason case till tomorrow.
