ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi held a Press Conference in Islamabad a few hours after the meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC), in which he said that Nawaz Sharif told him that his remarks about Mumbai attacks were misquoted by the Daily Dawn.
In the Press Conference which according to him was aimed at presenting facts, the prime minister said he had met Nawaz Sharif following the NSC meeting, and the former prime minister rejected his statement.
The prime minister said Nawaz Sharif never said that attackers of Mumbai blasts belonged to Pakistan. He said according to Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan never allowed its soil to be used for terrorism, and Pakistan always destroyed non-state actors.
Abbasi told that Nawaz Sharif said to him that Pakistan had not been involved in any type of terrorism.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said only three lines of the long interview of Nawaz Sharif were highlighted. He said Nawaz Sharif’s statement was reported in a wrong way.
The prime minister said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) still stood with Nawaz Sharif.
“We will contest the general elections with full preparation and will succeed,” he said.
It is worth mentioning here that earlier while talking to media outside the Accountability Court, Nawaz Sharif said he stood by his remarks published by Dawn, and also said he would continue to speak the truth without fearing of anything.
Earlier in the morning, the NSC in its 22nd meeting unanimously termed the recent statement of Nawaz Sharif appearing in Daily Dawn in the context of Mumbai attacks as incorrect and misleading.
Following the meeting, the prime minister reached Munir House and held meeting with Nawaz Sharif. He briefed Nawaz Sharif about the NSC meeting.
