LAHORE, Pakistan: The appellate tribunal of Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected all petition filed against the approval of nomination paper of Kulsoom Nawaz, Spouse of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, for NA-120 by-election.
The petitions were filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in the appellate tribunal, challenging the acceptance of Kulsoom Nawaz’s nomination papers by the Returning Officer (RO) at Punjab Election Commission’s Office in Lahore.
The petitioners had argued that Kulsoom Nawaz didn’t mention details about her assets in her nomination papers. While in addition, according to petitioners, she also did not disclose her Iqama.
In petitions, it was also argued that there were contradictions in details proved by Kulsoom Nawaz in her nomination papers.
Subsequently, the appellate tribunal of Lahore High Court after hearing the petitioners reserved the judgement today, and later rejected all petitions in this regard.
Earlier last Thursday, the RO approved the nomination papers of PTI’s Dr Yasmin Rashid and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Kulsoom Nawaz.
Though PTI had raised 25 objections regarding nomination papers of Kulsoom Nawaz but yet their approval prompted the Opposition parties also including PPP and PPP to Challenge it in the appellate tribunal.
The Returning Officer had maintained that the Election Commission didn’t have enough time to investigate Kalsoom Nawaz’s nomination papers.
The by-polls in Lahore’s NA-120 Constituency will be held on September 17.
