MULTAN, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed candidate Malik Aamir Dogar has won the by-election held on Thursday in NA-149 Multan-II by securing 58,142 votes against the senior politician Javed Hashmi, according to unofficial results.
Javed Hashmi who had the support of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) remained runner-up with 47,222 votes, as shown by the unofficial results of total 286 polling stations.
Javed Hashmi, Malik Aamir Dogar, the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) candidate Javed Siddiqui and Tahir Rasheed were the prominent candidates in the by-election.
Talking to media, Javed Hashmi conceded his defeat and congratulated the PTI-backed candidate for winning the by-election.
Earlier, Hashmi said that early poll results did not reflect his victory. He said that he would congratulate Amir Dogar with open heart if he won.
Hashmi further said that he would go to China for medical treatment, adding that people should now fully understand that change could only be brought about through ballot.
Meanwhile, Amir Dogar said that he was satisfied with the initial poll results so far and expressed trust on the people of the constituency for making him win the by-poll.
“I trust people of NA-149…I will come out victorious,” he said. “I took part in the by-election as an independent candidate. However, I’ve got PTI’s support.”
