KARACHI, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have agreed on a code of conduct for peaceful by-election in Karachi’s NA-246 constituency to be held on April 23.

In a press conference in Karachi, the Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan made this announcement after holding a meeting with the leaders of two parties at the governor house on Wednesday.

The Sindh governor said that all political parties should play a responsible role and refrain from provocation.

In reply to a question, the governor said that the PTI can hold its rally at the Jinnah ground in Azizabad on April 19.

On Tuesday, a PTI delegation led by its candidate Imran Ismail came under attack when it visited the Jinnah ground where the party plans to hold a rally on April 19.

In a statement issued on the MQM website on Wednesday, the party Chief Altaf Hussain said that he was extremely sad on the tragic incident took place between the residents of the NA-246 constituency and the leaders and workers of the PTI.

Hussain requested the Sindh governor and the Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to hold an emergency meeting of both parties and formulate a code of conduct for the bye-election.

The MQM chief also asked for the constitution of a committee comprising three empowered members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that would report any violation of the code of conduct to the Election Commissioner and forward copies of those reports to the governor and the chief minister.
