NA passes unanimous resolution supporting democratic institutions

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly on Tuesday passed a unanimous resolution expressing the resolve to play their due role for strengthening of democratic institutions, supremacy of constitution and the parliament.

The resolution, which was moved by the federal minister for planning and development Ahsan Iqbal, said that country’s defence and development are linked with democracy. It said that the parliament is working for the constitution, rule of law and the democracy and will continue to do so.

The resolution said the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was established according to the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Jinnah in a democratic way through vote. It congratulated the nation on the 68th Independence Day.

It comes when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Imran Khan and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) led by Dr Tahirul Qadri plan to hold long march on August 14 to protest against alleged rigging in the general elections held last year and to press for electoral reforms. Both the parties also vow to topple the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government.
