ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb on Wednesday said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) could not prove corruption charges against the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
“Nawaz Sharif is taking this case to the court of people,” Marriyum Aurangzeb said while talking to media outside the Accountability Court in Islamabad, adding nothing could be proved in cases against Nawaz Sharif.
The minister said the head of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia had recorded his statement in the court, and wherein he clearly said Avenfield property was not related to Nawaz Sharif.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said no document related to Nawaz Sharif was available, adding the JIT also failed to find proof during its investigation.
Meanwhile talking to media representatives after his appearance before the Accountability Court, Nawaz Sharif said today the facts and reality had been exposed.
Nawaz Sharif said Wajid Zia had washed away allegations levelled upon them, adding it was proved that the case against them was political. He said those who had filed the case against them should be ashamed now.
“We can’t be sentenced in this case,” he added.
The former prime minister declined to comment on the meeting held between Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday but stated that now the role of Parliament had also gone in the hands of others.
