NADRA report terms NA-122 election rigging-free: Rasheed

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rasheed has said that the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in its forensic report has termed the election in Lahore’s NA-122 constituency rigging-free.

His statement came after the NADRA submitted its report on alleged rigging and malpractice in the NA-122 constituency to the election tribunal on Saturday.

In a statement in Islamabad, the minister said that the NADRA’s forensic report about NA-122 ruled out organized rigging in the elections.

The information minister said that out of 1, 80,000 votes only 500 votes were rejected. He said that the quality of 93,852 thumb impressions was poor.

Rasheed said that the National Identity Card Numbers (CNICs) of all voters were found correct.

The minister urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders to read NADRA’s report carefully, saying they are used to misleading people by making wrong statements.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) candidate Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, who is now the Speaker National Assembly, won the seat from NA-122 as a result of May 2013 general elections by securing 92,393 votes. His opponent the PTI Chief Imran Khan had managed to receive 83,542 votes.
