QUETTA, Pakistan: Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday was elected unopposed as Chief Minister Balochistan since no other candidate submitted nomination papers for the slot.
The proposers and endorsers of Nawab Zehri included former Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch and Provincial Minister and leader of National Party (NP) Sardar Aslam Bezinjo, Provincial Ministers and leaders of Pashtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP)-Abdul Raheem Ziaratwal and Nawab Ayaz Jogezai, Provincial Minister, Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhel and leader of Pakistan Muslim league-Quaid (ML-Q) Mir Kareem Nosherwani.
No other candidate submitted his or her nomination papers within stipulated time except Nawab Zehri.
The seat of chief minister became vacant as Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, tendered his resignation from the office of chief minister last night in line with the Murree Agreement, inked between coalition partners including PML-N, PkMAP and NP.
According to the Murree Agreement, the coalition partners had reached consensus that the office of chief minister Balochistan would remain with National Party for two and half years and later candidate of PML-N would be elected as chief minister for the remaining period.
