Nawaz describes meetings with world leaders as positive, productive

NEW YORK: As Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif continues to hold meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly session, he described his meetings as positive and productive.

The prime minister is currently in New York to attend the 70th session of the UN General Assembly wherein he will make his address on September 30.

On the sidelines of the event, the prime minister held meetings with various world leaders including the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, the US Secretary of State John Kerry, Swedish Prime Minister Stefen lofven, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, Korean President Park Geun-hye, President of Senegal, Macky Sall and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim.

In addition, he also attended the UN Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda in New York.

Talking to media representatives in New York, Nawaz Sharif said that his meetings with world leaders provided an opportunity to talk on all issues including economy, politics, extremism and regional peace.

To a question about his meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon, the prime minister said that he reiterated Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir dispute which needs to be resolved in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and in line with the aspirations of Kashmiris.

Nawaz Sharif said that he urged the UN secretary general to have the Security Council resolutions on Kashmir implemented as it is the duty of the world body to get its resolutions implemented.
