ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar on Monday filed petitions in Islamabad High Court (IHC), challenging the Accountability Court’s verdict in Avenfield properties reference against them.

Separately, Nawaz Sharif’s Counsel Khawaja Haris also filed another appeal in the IHC, seeking the transfer of Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal Establishment references to some other Accountability Court.

The petitions against Sharif family’s conviction by the Accountability Court were filed by Khawaja Haris and Amjad Pervez on behalf of Nawaz Sharif, and Maryam Nawaz & Captain (retd) Safdar respectively.

The petitions argued that the sentences given by the Accountability Court to Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar may be suspended and they be released on bail till the final decision of the Court.

While in the separate petition related to the trial of Sharif family members in Adiala jail, it was pleaded that the cases may be referred to a separate Court because the concerned judge cannot hear another case against the same accused after giving a judgment in Avenfield reference.

It said that the Head of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia had also admitted that they didn’t find any evidence, vindicating that children remained depended on Nawaz Sharif.
