ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has again moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking suspension of his sentence in Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference on medical grounds.

With the petition, medical reports and opinion of the doctors have also been affixed.

Earlier the Islamabad High Court had rejected Nawaz Sharif’s petition seeking suspension of the sentence in the case on medical grounds.

Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to seven years in prison on December 24, 2018 by the Accountability Court Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills Company (ASCL) Reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

But the former prime minister moved the IHC with a plea against the suspension of his seven-year sentence in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills Reference on medical grounds. However, the Court rejected his petition on February 25, 2019, arguing that all diseases Nawaz Sharif has been suffering from are curable in Pakistan.

Later the Supreme Court of Pakistan on March 26, 2019 approved the Nawaz Sharif’s bail plea on medical grounds, and granted him a six-week bail.
