ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced observance of countrywide day of mourning on Thursday over Karachi bus tragedy that left 43 members of the Ismaili community dead.
Earlier in the morning, at least 45 Ismaili community members were killed while more than 10 others sustained injuries when their bus came under an attack by unknown gunmen in Safora Goth area of Karachi.
The national flag would fly at half-mast at the Civil Secretariat and all other government buildings across the country.
In a statement, the prime minister said that the entire nation shares grief and sorrow of the bereaved families.
The prime minister also sought a complete report from the concerned authorities about the Karachi deadly attack which triggered a worldwide strong condemnation.
Meanwhile, the prime minister arrived in Karachi on Wednesday evening to preside over a meeting in wake of Karachi bus tragedy.
The Sindh government and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have also announced to obverse a day of mourning on Thursday over massacre of members of Ismaili community in Karachi.
In a statement, the MQM Chief Altaf Hussain requested all businesses, educational institutions and public transportation be suspended on Thursday.
Senate passes resolution condemning Karachi incident
The Senate passed a unanimous resolution strongly condemning the Karachi firing incident.
The resolution moved by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Karim Ahmad Khawaja demanded the government to take stern action against the culprits and bring them to justice at the earliest.
The House offered Fateha for those killed in the terrorist activity in Karachi today.
