ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will once again take the nation into confidence on Panama leaks and as per opposition’s demand, likely to announce the formation of a Judicial Commission headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan to investigate the allegations.
Sources said that the prime minister will address the nation at 08:30 pm on Friday in which he would take the nation on board about initiatives taken by his government following leakage of Panama Papers.
It will be prime minister’s third address to the nation in a month as earlier on March 28, he directly talked to the nation after Lahore blast while later on April 5, he announced the formation of a commission to investigate allegations level in Panama Papers.
Earlier this month, 11.5 million documents from Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca were leaked in which many worldwide high profile personalities including head of states were accused of having offshore companies. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz and daughter Maryam Nawaz were also among the victims.
In his address to the nation on April 5, the prime minister announced to constitute a commission to probe the Panama leaks; however, the opposition parties rejected the commission as it was proposed to be headed by a former Chief Justice.
The opposition including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demanded the constitution of Judicial Commission headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and also demanded a forensic audit by a well-known international firm.
Sources said that the federal government has agreed to form a Commission under the Chief Justice of Pakistan and it would soon write a letter to the Supreme Court, asking the apex court to form a commission to probe Panama leaks.
