LAHORE, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif accompanied by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan reached Lahore on Monday morning to preside over a security meeting to discuss the blast which hit Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park yesterday and left more than 70 innocent people dead.
Upon his arrival, especial security arrangements were made.
The prime minister accompanied by the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the interior minister visited Jinnah Hospital soon after his arrival to inquire after the health of Sunday’s blast injured.
Nawaz Sharif went to the beds of several patients including children. He directed the hospital administration to provide best possible health treatment and facilities to all the injured.
Last night, the prime minister chaired a high level meeting in Islamabad in the wake of Lahore incident.
The meeting was attended by the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and some other senior officials.
In his remarks on the occasion, the prime minister said that terrorists and their facilitators involved in Lahore suicide attack will be taken to task at all costs. He said that his heart bleeds as the terrorists had targeted his sons, daughters, brothers and sisters.
The prime minister stressed the need for strengthening national unity and burying differences to confront terrorism with strong resolve.
Separately, a high level meeting was also held in Rawalpindi by military leaders including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Military Intelligence (MI) and other military officials.
During the meeting, the COAS expressed the resolve to bring the perpetrators of suicide attack to justice. He said that these savage inhumans will not be allowed to overrun people’s life and liberty.
The army chief directed concerned commanders and intelligence agencies to launch operations at the earliest to find linkages and perpetrators of the attack.
