ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend the National Assembly session on Monday in which he will likely be giving a policy statement on Panama Papers issue, a controversy which continues to cause immense tension in the ranks of the federal government since early April.

Sources said that the Senate will resume its session at 04:00 pm while the National Assembly at 5:00 pm. Both the Houses will discuss important national issues most importantly Panama Papers besides carrying out legislative business.

Since the Panama controversy surfaced, the prime minister has addressed the nation twice over the issue and tried to convince the masses that he had nothing to do with offshore companies while his sons had the company which they owned in mid-2000s.

However, the prime minister didn’t attend a single session of the National Assembly session which irked the opposition parties. The opposition eventually announced to boycott the legislative proceedings till the prime minister comes in the Parliament and answer the questions about the Panama Papers revelations.

The Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed has said that the prime minister will give a policy statement on Panama Papers issue in the National Assembly. He may also announce some necessary steps to ensure transparent probe into Panama Papers issue and offshore companies.

It is also expected that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan will also address the National Assembly today and take the lawmakers on board about his offshore company, he established in 1983 to buy a flat in London.
