ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal on Tuesday said that it was the responsibility of State to provide quality health facilities to the citizens.
Speaking in the Senate, the minister said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif would inaugurate the National Health Programme on December 31 (Thursday).
The programme, she said, was aimed at providing free of charge treatment to the poor and downtrodden. The scheme was designed for those who could not pay for their medical treatment, she added.
Saira Afzal said it was a unique health programme in the country under which patients suffering from diseases like cancer, hepatitis, road accidents would get treatment from panel hospitals, both in private and public sectors.
