NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that he had an “excellent” meeting with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

“I had an excellent meeting” with Modi, Sharif said while talking to the Indian media. “We are positive. (I look) forward to a positive outcome.”

Meanwhile, the Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh told media after meetings of the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi with leaders of the SAARC countries and Mauritius including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that the two leaders agreed that foreign secretaries will remain in touch and explore how to move forward on bilateral front.

The Indian Foreign Secretary quoted Modi as saying that the two countries would move immediately towards full trade normalization on the basis of the September 2012 road map. The Indian premier expressed the hope that Pakistan-India relations would progress in economic, cultural and political fields.

Singh said that the Indian prime minister conveyed to Nawaz Sharif that Pakistan must ensure speedy trial in 26/11 case and hoped that relationship with Pakistan will be like India’s connection with other SAARC nations.

Modi also asked Sharif to expedite 26/11 trial, wants full trade with Pakistan and stressed that Pakistan must abide by its commitment to control terrorism emanating from its soil against India, Singh said.

“The PM had good and substantive meeting with all the eight leaders. The meetings were held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere,” the Indian foreign secretary said.
