ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday stressed the need for promoting tolerance and patience through poetry and literature.
In a meeting with his Special Assistant on National History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui in Islamabad on Monday, the prime minister said that the federal government wanted to promote poetry and literature to create tolerance, empathy and good will in the country.
The prime minister assured the special assistant that the government would provide all kind of cooperation to the intellectual and literary institutions.
Irfan Siddiqui briefed the prime minister about arrangements made for a four-day International Conference on “Language, Literature and Society” to be held in Islamabad from January from 5 to 8 January, 2017.
The Conference would be organized by Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) and its purpose was to explore contribution of literature and academia in bringing about positive changes in the society.
In the Conference, writers, linguists, research scholars and academics from across the World would participate to exchange their research work and developments in the field.
The Language, Literature and Society Conference would help develop deepen understanding of contemporary literature being produced in context of peace building and social development of different countries around the World.
