KARACHI, Pakistan: The Karachi traffic police on Saturday announced new rules for school vans and gave van owners time till August 21 to implement these laws.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of traffic police Dr Amir Sheikh announced the rules according to which, school vans would be blue in colour and would be given special protocol in traffic laws.
The DIG traffic said that the responsibility of implementing these laws will lie with the administration of schools, adding that those schools in violation will have their registration cancelled and sealed.
Dr Amir Sheikh said that according to the rules, vans will not have a cylinder of any type and will only run on petrol or diesel. The school administration will not be allowed to run Suzuki pickup as a school van.
Likewise, it will be necessary for an attendant to be present in the school van which as per new rules, won’t go to a petrol station with children onboard
The overcrowding the vehicle, playing music, smoking by the driver and attendant in the school van will also not be allowed.
