AUCKLAND: New Zealand has reached the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 after defeating South Africa by four wickets in the first semi-final at the Eden Park in Auckland on Tuesday.

The match was reduced to 43 overs after rain came while the South Africans were batting, and they made 281 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of their innings.

From South Africa, Faf du Plessis and captain AB de Villiers remained main scorers with 82 and 65 runs respectively.

New Zealand were set a revised target of 298 under the Duckworth-Lewis method (D/L method), and they achieved it in 42.5 overs for the loss of six wickets.

In the last over, New Zealand needed just 5 runs in last two balls and all-rounder Grant Elliott hit a huge six off Dale Steyn, guiding his side to qualify for the world cup final.

Grant Elliott made an undefeated 84 runs off 73 will three massive sixes.

The second semi-final will be played between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday.

The World Cup final will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 29.
