Newly-elected Senators took oath as member of Upper House

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 46 newly elected Senators took oath of their office at the Senate in Islamabad on Thursday morning.        

The Federal Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, who was nominated by President Mamnoon Hussain as presiding officer, administered the oath.

Later, after taking the oath the newly elected members signed the Roll of Members.

Ishaq Dar congratulated the newly elected members and expressed the hope that they will play their due role during their tenure as Senators.

Later, the presiding officer announced schedule for the election of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Senate which will be held at 03:00 pm today.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Mian Raza Rabbani has emerged as a consensus candidate for the Senate Chairman position.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also endorsed the nomination by opposition parties of Mian Raza Rabbani as the new Senate Chairman at a luncheon meeting with the heads of major political parties in Islamabad on Tuesday.
