MUNICH: Iran’s Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif has said that Iran and six major world powers will hold the next round of nuclear talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna on February 18.

After a meeting with the European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on the sidelines of the Munich security conference, Zarif told reports that Iran agreed to hold the next round of the negotiations on its nuclear programme with the US and five other world powers in Vienna on February 18.

“At the meeting with Ms. Ashton we agreed to hold the next round of Iran’s nuclear talks with the P5+1 (permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) in Vienna on February 18,” Zarif said.

On November 24, Iran with the United States, France, Britain, Russia, China and Germany struck a historic nuclear deal in Geneva to pave the way for the full resolution of the decade-old dispute over its nuclear energy program. The deal came to force on January 20.

As part of the deal which would last for the six-month period only, the world powers agreed to lift some of the existing sanctions against Iran, in exchange for Tehran’s confidence-building bid to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities.
