ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: National Highway Authority (NHA) spent Rs 30,544.657 million on the maintenance of national highways and motorways in the country during past three years.

It spent Rs 170,756.855 million on the construction of new highways and motorways, says an official of NHA, adding in 2013-14 Rs 4,947.074 million were spent on the maintenance of roads, in 2014-15 it spent Rs 14,179.660 million and in 2015-16 Rs 11,417.923 million were spent on the maintenance of motorways and highways.

He said that in 2013-14 Rs 1,367.709 million were spent in Punjab, Rs 747.204 million in Sindh, Rs 1,378.591 million were spent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the maintenance of highways while Rs 687.670 million were spent in the fiscal year on the maintenance of the  motorways.

He said in 2014-15 Rs 4,550.335 million were spent on federal roads maintenance in the Punjab, Rs 3,609.212 million were spent in Sindh, Rs 2,058.878 million in Balochistan, Rs 2,759.656 million in the KPK while Rs 17 million were spent on the maintenance of the roads in Gilgit Baltistan. He said Rs 1,184.579 million were spent on the maintenance of the motorway network in the country in 2014-15.

The NHA official said that the NHA spent Rs 5,283 million on the maintenance of highways in the Punjab during fiscal year 2015-16, Rs 1,557.533 million in Sindh, Rs 1,727.684 million in Balochistan, Rs 2,140.786 million in KPK.

Moreover Rs 708.920 million were spent on the maintenance of motorways in 2015-16.

Giving the province-wise breakup of the NHA expenditure on the construction of national highways and motorways in the country during past three years, he said that a total of Rs 170,756.855 million were spent.

He said that a total of Rs 43,147.573 million were spent in Punjab, Rs 22,082.276 million were spent in Sindh, Rs 24,670.846 million in Balochistan, Rs 36,665.550 million were spent in KPK while Rs 23,588.878 million were spent in Gilgit Baltistan.

He said that in 2013-14 Rs 13,127.114 million were spent in Punjab, Rs 11,992.893 million were spent in Sindh, Rs 7,084.225 million in Balochistan, Rs 14,830.834 million in KPK and Rs 10,440.611 million were spent in GB on construction of new roads.

In 2014-15 Rs 8,378.014 million were spent in Punjab, Rs 6,386.004 million were spent in Sindh, Rs 5,458.833 million were spent in Balochistan, Rs 6,699.767 million in KPK and Rs 8,088.048 million in GB.

In 2015-16 Rs 21,642,445 million were spent in Punjab, Rs 3,703.379 million in Sindh, Rs 12,127.788 million in Balochistan, Rs 15,134.949 million while Rs 5,060.219 million were spent in Gilgit Baltistan.
