ISLAMABAD: The federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali khan has assured that a positive response will be given to the Taliban’s announcement of ceasefire for one month.
His statement came after the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced a month-long ceasefire with the government.
Following the announcement, the interior minister talked to a key member of the Taliban negotiating team Maulana Samiul Haq and assured him that a positive response would be given to the Taliban’s announcement.
Maulana Sami told the interior minister that the government should benefit from the announcement. They also agreed for the government and Taliban committees to meet in the next few days.
Earlier, the coordinator of the government negotiating team Irfan Siddiqui appreciated ceasefire announcement from the TTP, saying that it is a positive development.
“The government gave a positive reply to the recommendations we gave our negotiations committee for ending the deadlock in peace talks, and we have been given satisfactory assurance that the recommendations will be implemented,” the TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said.
The TTP spokesman said that the TTP top leadership has directed all groups to fully honour the ceasefire with the government, and to refrain from all Jihadi activities during this period.
