ISLAMABAD: A joint meeting of the government and the Taliban peace committees has been convened by the federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in Islamabad on Wednesday to discuss progress in dialogue process and decide about future strategy.
The meeting will also review ceasefire announcement by the Taliban.
It will be the first meeting of the committees after the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced not to extend ceasefire.
On April 16, TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said that the government did not give satisfactory response to Taliban’s 40-day ceasefire, adding their 50 detained members were killed during this time period.
The TTP spokesman said the decision about not extending ceasefire was taken at the Taliban Shura meeting. However, he said that if the government takes any serious step, the TTP will respond it.
