Nisar proposes committee to probe magnetic ink issue

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday proposed the formation of a committee to investigate whether magnetic ink was used at all the polling stations or not during the May 11 general elections.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Wednesday‚ the interior minister said that it was not the responsibility of the incumbent government to provide magnetic ink for the last general elections and those responsible for providing the same should be brought to justice.

The interior minister said that the issue of thumb verification should not be used for political gimmick as we are ready to address this issue while taking on board the opposition.

Nisar said that he fears that magnetic ink was not used in several areas and a large number of votes are unverifiable due to use of common ink.

Moreover, the interior minister categorically stated that the government has not in any manner interfered in the thumb verification process of NADRA during last five months.

The minister said that he had also suggested constitution of over viewing committee under Justice Wajihuddin to see whether or not the government has interfered in the process.
