ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan told on Wednesday that a meeting of the ambassadors of Islamic Countries in Islamabad had been convened for consultation to evolve a joint response to blasphemous content on social media.

While addressing a news conference in Islamabad, the minister said that the meeting of the Islamic Countries’ ambassadors would be held on Friday in Islamabad.

The interior minister said the issue was a matter of concern for the entire Muslim world and could be tackled through a joint strategy. He said that the issue would also be raised at the forum of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The minister said that freedom of expression had a limit, adding that strict action would be taken against uploading of blasphemous content on social media.

Furthermore, Nisar said that Facebook had expressed its willingness to send a delegation to Pakistan to address the issue.

Meanwhile, the hearing of a petition seeking removal of blasphemous content from social media continued in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Earlier in the day, the IHC Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui was told that one person had been apprehended in the Case while the names of several had been put on the Exit Control List (ECL).

Justice Siddiqui had already warned that social media including Facebook could be banned in Pakistan if blasphemous content was not removed.
