No armed group to be allowed to dictate its agenda: Rasheed

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for information Pervaiz Rasheed said on Thursday that no armed group would be allowed to dictate its agenda and disturb peace of the country.

In his address at a candle light vigil ceremony at the national broadcasting house Islamabad in memory of terrorist attack on Peshawar army public school, the minister said that it was because of the immense sacrifices rendered by our children in Peshawar and people of Pakistan that have united us against terrorism.

The minister said that consensus that emerged during meeting of the parliamentary leaders in Islamabad would serve as a journey from darkness to the light.

The information said that the nation also resolved yesterday that it would not allow formation of armed and militants groups to dictate the nation about its way of life and relations with neighbors.

Rasheed said that only those institutions authorized by the constitution have the right and responsibility to possess the gun and use it to defend the country and its people.

“No other group or militant organization can be given this right,” he added.

Pervaiz Rashid said that by remembering tragedies like Peshawar, we can learn from the mistakes of the past and reflect how to prevent them in future.

“It is time for us for self-accountability as to where and why we erred,” the minister said.

The minister said that with unity and collective wisdom we can prevent recurrence of Peshawar-like tragedy.
